Before you come to your first distribution

Before you come to your first distribution, here are some things that you should know…

We distribute food based on a randomised number-based queue system. It is important that you come on time, but you do not need to come early.

Please bring your own containers/bags. We encourage you to bring a large bag for all your food (like a larger backpack or a grocery trolley) as well as smaller containers or bags for things like unpackaged buns and unpackaged fragile fruits and vegetables (like berries and cherry tomatoes).

We share food for free and with anyone and everyone – no strings attached! Absolutely everybody is welcome to become a Food Saver and show up at our distributions to collect free, rescued food.

However, we encourage all Food Savers to follow these three principles:

  1. Choose food based on your own senses and judgement! We do our best to ensure the safety of all food shared but since rescued food is often closer to expiration, we encourage you to also check. Pay attention to how it looks, smells, feels and tastes!
  2. Take only as much food as you (or you and your family, friends, roommates, etc.) can realistically consume in the few days. It is important to avoid simply moving the food from one trash can to another!
  3. Be considerate of your fellow Food Savers. Remember that by coming to our distributions, you become a part of the Food Sharing community, and we want hope to keep this community a respectful and considerate one.
